Waterfront Improvement Project

Final Report

AmphitheaterConstruction of the waterfront improvement project began about two years ago, but the dream began years before that. We are delighted to see the dream come to fruition. Hundreds of people contributed to the effort. Landscape designers, skilled workers of all kinds, student volunteers who moved rocks, barge crews who transported tons of materials, and donors who gave generously. One of our staff, Brandon, even spent six hours per day, five days a week, for six weeks pumping sand from the ocean floor so that our volleyball courts would be extra soft.

The Response from Our Guests

It has been exciting to watch our guests enthusiastically respond to the improvements. The new basketball court gets constant use as do the volleyball courts. The new and expanded amphitheater and fire ring are a hit with the late night crowd. We created a new sea wall built with railroad ties that has become a favorite sitting spot for beach goers. On sunny days the new sandy beach draws crowds of sunbathers. In the coming weeks we hope to complete the finishing touches on the remodeled boat house and checkout room. A deck will wrap around two sides of the structure that will feature a new seminar room and arts and crafts area. While we were at it we also upgraded the two seminar rooms near the Main Deck.

Thanks to all of you who gave towards this effort. We are eager for you see the final results.
